CD Smiley Coaster/Trivet
Uses cotton yarn and a H hook. Also needed is a used CD.
Chain 4 slip st tog, chain 2 and 13 dc in ring. Slip st tog and ch 2. Dc in same
stitch as ch 2, then 2 dc in each st around. *Dc in next st, 2 dc in next st.
Repeat from * around, slip st tog and ch 2. *Dc in next 2 stitches, then 2 dc in
next st. Repeat from * around, slip st tog and fasten off. Now make another
circle just the same…. But don’t fasten off from second circle. But circles
together and sc around in each stitch. When you are ˝ way around, put the CD in
and finish sc around. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Yellow dishcloth
I like this pattern as the popcorn stitches give you a little scrubbing power
when you are using it. This is made with cotton yarn and a H hook. This one was

Ch 4, slip st tog, chain 2 and do 13 dc in ring. Slip st tog and ch 3, count
this as you first dc in your popcorn stitch. Do 4 dc in same stitch, take hook
out of loop and insert hook in top of first dc of group, pull dropped loop
through st and ch 3. Skip next st. In next dc, *do 5 dc in st, drop lp from
hook, insert hook in top of first dc of group, pull dropped lp through st, ch3.
skip next st. and repeat from * around. Slip st to top of first ch and then slip
st to the ch 3 loop. Ch 3, count this as you first dc in your popcorn stitch. Do
4 dc in same stitch, take hook out of loop and insert hook in top of first dc of
group, pull dropped loop through st and ch 3. Now do another 5 dc in the chain 3
space, take hook out of loop and insert hook in top of first dc of group, pull
dropped loop through st and ch 3. Repeat the 2 popcorn stitches in each ch 3
space around. Slip st tog and slip st to chain 3 space, ch 3, count this as you
first dc in your popcorn stitch. Do 4 dc in same stitch, take hook out of loop
and insert hook in top of first dc of group, pull dropped loop through st and ch
3. Now do another 5 dc in the chain 3 space, take hook out of loop and insert
hook in top of first dc of group, pull dropped loop through st and ch 3. Repeat
the 2 popcorn stitches in each ch 3 space around. Slip st tog, ch 3, now do 3 dc
in each chain 3 space around. Slip st tog, ch 1 and sc around. Fasten off and
weave in ends.
I added the black for the eyes and smile. I just “winged” it to make the
stitches for the smile.

H hook and acrylic or cotton yarn
Ch 4, slip st tog, chain 2 and do 13 dc in ring. Dc in same stitch as ch 2, then
2 dc in each st around. *Dc in next st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around,
slip st tog and ch 2. *Dc in next 2 st, then 2 dc in next st. Repeat from *
around, slip st tog. Ch 2, *dc in next 3 st, then 2 dc in next st. Repeat from *
around, slip st tog and ch 2. *Dc in next 5 st, then 2 dc in next st. Repeat
from * around, slip st tog and fasten off. Now make another circle the exact
same way. But don’t fasten off when you get to end. Instead sc the 2 circles
right sides out together. Ch 10 for a loop, sc to circle and fasten off and
weave in ends. The black eyes were done separately. I chained 4 and then did 2
sc in each stitch around and then weaved in the ends so that the hole would not
show. The mouth is just black yarn weaved in with a needle to look like a mouth.
